Half A Lesbian Poem by Ramona Thompson

Half A Lesbian

Either you are or you aren't
Either you love me or you love him
You can't have us both
You can't my girlfriend and his lover too
Time to make a choice
Stand up and admit to yourself finally the truth of who you really are and where we stand
Cos I will not
I refuse to accept you this way
Only 50 percent
Only half a lesbian

Neither of us deserves to live this lie
So if you can't love me
Fully and completely
Woman to woman
Than I would like to ask you to leave now
Before there is any more damage done
Before there are any more harsh words said that can't be taken back
I have no regrets
I loved you as much as one human being can love another
Even if all I got in return from you was half a lesbian

I've given everything I can and than some
Now its your turn
Your turn to make up your mind
Walk out that door now or stay here forever with me
I will gladly take you back
I'll agree to work this mess out
On one condition
You can never again look at another man as long we're together
Cos if you can't promise me that than I really don't think I want you anymore
It would just hurt too much to always have to live with that lingering kind of doubt

I have a ring
I'm willing to make a commitment
A lifetime one
How about you?
Can you swear to love me and only me for the rest of our lives together?
God help me
I pray that you can and will
Cos I swear it's true
Never in my life have ever loved anyone more
Even if she is only half a lesbian
