Happy Birthday Poem by George Hunter

Happy Birthday

Happy Birthday to me, they all sing
While dancing around in a ring.
....We’ll all whirl round the floor
....“Cause you’re now eighty-four
And presents to you we will bring.

Should have brought you a birthday cake
But we’ve been too lazy to bake
....So here’s a new walking stick
....To keep your back from a crick
And some No-Doz to keep you awake.

An umbrella to keep you dry
And shade you so you won’t fry.
....Some hearing aids
....And a box of Band-Aids
And some tissues in case you should cry.

We’d give you some gold
But you might get rolled
....Because you’ve gotten so weak
....That you can hardly speak
It ain’t easy getting old.

I know that I’m old and I’m bent
But old age is heaven sent
....So don’t make a bet
....I’ve a few years left yet
As long as I can take nourish-ment.

I’m fourscore plus four today
And I really would like to stay
....But I have to go soon
....Maybe fly to the moon
This old dog has had his day.
