Harbinger

Of the Annas,
dancer Pavlova
and princess Pavlovna,
the former's name became a sweet,
the latter's, the paulownia tree.
Why it isn't pavlovnia don't ask me.

In Japan an outhouse
is often out by one,
in which a poet
keeps vigil as winter ends:
there's a belief
it is first deciduous to leaf.
