how eerie you seem when naked and bare,
your heaven directed arms starved of light,
like skeletons you seem in the cold cruel night,
waiting for the season to reason with time,
waiting for the food of your life to return and shine.
how lonely you look, how brittle you are
down by your roots, dry and dishevelled,
your once beauftiful leaves like dead stars,
carpet the frosty ground enriching the soil.
like a snake shedding its old skin,
you will begin to bloom again,
fresh green leaves and bold brown bark,
Hark! The arrival of the coming spring
