Hazel Eyes Poem by D.N. Rebb

Hazel Eyes

Such luminous eyes to get lost in
An idle dream to awaken from
Distant tomorrow, a new begin
Surrender humility, and succumb
Realism debates the challenge
Foolish hearts do not lie
Of underlying imbalance
The mind, though, still asks why

Passion, the anarchy of lust
Timeless existence, surrender
Skeptical doubt, don't trust
Youthful desires that once were
Hope promises, yet, chance deceives
Illusions crenellate uncertainty
Hazel eyes, daring thieves
Speaking sentiment, for eternity

The language of love, so tragic
Envision the grace, a reference
Time strikes the hour,
It's rigged
In power,
Yet, there's no difference

Curious gaze, emitting a mystic trance
Fiercely innocent, or naively delinquent
In the free spirit of true romance
That slumbers, where wishes once granted
Amiable sights, spiritual twins
Recipient subject, ignorance banned
As kindness should always win
With eyes in complexion of hazel sand

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
this poem was inspired by a cashier during the covid crisis. Not sure if I would have ever noticed those beautiful hazel eyes if she wasn't wearing a mask to conceal the rest of her face (though I do not miss those damn masks)
