He Poem by Kathryn Miller

He

Rating: 5.0

He lies awake at night thinking about her,
Wanting her back with all his heart,
She left him today with a torn memory,
She told him to meet her in the courtyard,
When he got there he was baffled,
She had brought him the other guy,
He stared at their hands folded together,
She told him it was his fault,
And that she thought they were growing apart,
He didn’t understand he thought everything was going good,
But underneath he knew it wasn’t,
He went home sad and depressed,
Wanting to turn around and see her standing there ready to hold him,
But he didn’t and never would again,
He thought he couldn’t live without her,
And wanted to stay in bed and never get up,
Knowing she wasn’t there to greet him,
He feels like sinking away into nothing,
Feeling like he has become nothing,
But then he remembers something his dad had said,
“Son, never let something get in your way of what you truly want”
He wanted to get on with his life knowing he couldn’t win her back,
So he began anew and now he has a new girlfriend who loves and respects him,
And has never been happier.
