He spoke to me
in the language of foolishness—
words like pebbles,
hurled careless,
rippling the stillness of thought.
I feared to answer in wisdom,
for my voice might drown
in the noise,
twisted,
lost.
Wisdom belongs to the wise,
and folly clings to fools.
What good is light
to eyes that refuse to see?
What good is water
to lips that do not thirst?
I would not wade
into the swamp of argument,
where truth sinks,
unseen.
I would not become a fool
by the mere act of reply.
So I stepped away—
not in anger,
not in pride,
but in the quiet understanding
that silence is sometimes
the loudest wisdom.
I let go—
not out of weakness,
but out of strength.
Not in defeat,
but in knowing
some bridges
are best left uncrossed.
