Hidden Smile Poem by Jeffenise Robertson

Hidden Smile

Smiling faces tell lies
Lies of happiness and contentment
I paste mines on, doodled it on a sketch pad and placed it in front of my face
Hiding my eyes that allow you to see beyond the surface
Prohibiting access to my soul
Blocking the senses that would allow anyone to notice my current state
I heard it's written all over your face, you don't have to say a word
The song says your smile for me is better then any word I ever heard
So in order to clearly convey that which is accurate I put this face on
I call it a masquerade, because I'm expected to look on the bright side of things
To believe in that which I don't see and delight in things hope for…
I didn't know the belief in this meant that pain ceases and sorrow doesn't overwhelm me
Smiling faces tell lies
Lies of bliss and glee
Only if I could tap into that which the pain is intended to produce
Because strength I can't seem to find
How much more must I endure before this process reaps a harvest
I have had enough and I've grown weary
Desperately wanting to remove this template from in front of my face

Such a powerful poem. I paste mines on, doodled it on a sketch pad and placed it in front of my face - - Sometimes it seems to be the only way facing the world.
