High Desert Poem by dave lessard

High Desert

High desert suits me fine
a mile of lovely altitude
basking in the sun of march
reveling in my solitude;
brisk winds cool the brow
the sweat is non-existent
I walk the hills with Jax
tugged by his insistence.
Thirty pounds of canine flesh
a soul of gentle beauty
a Terrier delight, a cutie!
The mountains ring the town
with pine and prickly pear
we amble dusty paths
on days both foul and fair.
High desert suits me well
clean air and no pollution
and daily walks in sunny March
is part of the solution.
