Hilary Or Tenzing

A fascinating but slow
switch-backed ascent
threatened a comparatively quick
straight slide down the other side.

Not happy to end like that,
the two detoured to
a lyrical precipitous climb
followed by a meandering balladic glide.

As if in a dream, after that
they glided and slid to the bottom.
Asked which bottomed first, slided or glid,
the two would say, 'Either did.'
