His Music Soothed My Soul. Poem by Mohammad Younus

His Music Soothed My Soul.

His music soothed my soul.
But when I spoke I knew not
The words to say.
His silence so full of sound.
And as if a show for the sorrows,
mine empty,
a space between.
Like a wall between us.
Like the words we never said.
I know they linger like the dust.
And I try so hard to brush them away.
They cling to my fingertips,
a punishment-
pricking my skin as if emotions
will bleed out instead of red, ivory blood.
I feel for my words,
And I find them only at night.
When I lie curled up in my bed
Dreaming of what could've been
If I only had the strength to say.
A reality resembling a nightmare,
where I feel astray, stripped of my words
unceremoniously filled with horrors
brought from the people, away.
If only there was a world
for the wordless,
who linger at the edge of insanity-
who scorch themselves,
lick the burns-
desperate to prove that
there's something more
than just the mere space
between the words 'The End'
