He told me if he is re-elected
If by the undereducated he is selected,
Then on day one
That terrible war in Ukraine would be gone.
A couple days have already went by
I then wondered if he had told another lie,
I needed to know the answer to his promise
As I became a doubting Thomas.
I couldn't find the answer in the paper or on the news
So, I put on my jacket and then on my shoes,
I then went from door to door
My neighbors I thought would know for sure.
I asked everyone that I spoke to if they knew
If the war in Ukraine was over and though,
I asked everyone I met, for the answer
But, strangely many around the question became a dancer.
I then asked a member of my own church
They didn't know, they didn't do any research,
Then I walked next door to ask a neighbor
They told me that they were no traitor.
I then made a series of long distance phone calls
Across many oceans and fences and walls,
I then again asked the very same question
As I needed to hear the truth, or to learn a lesson.
I then asked is the war over yet
The Russian I called told me sternly, "Nyet"!
Do you happen to know the reason why
The Ukrainian that I then called, sadly told me, "Nii".
He promised the world that the war would end
To me and to our country, that promise he penned,
I now wonder what other promises he will break
How many more promises, for goodness sake.
