Holding Water In One's Hand Poem by Nathan Coppedge

Holding Water In One's Hand

When one holds water in one's hand…

It may flow one way or another…

Some say the Way matters,

Some say it does not matter.

Some say the water doesn't exist.

Some say that water is not water.

Count the ways the water flows…

Into and out of water…

Into your hand and out of your hand…

And you will have an example of water.

And if water is something greater than itself…

You will have an example of something greater than itself.

Thrrefore, know that water is greater,

Unless it is lesser…

Unless it is just water…

Then let the water flow into water…

For that is how water flows.

Unless water is frozen and does not flow…

Or escapes as steam…

Or partakes of another substance…

Therefore water is something that is measurable,

Although it appears limitless, in fact it has limit.

Although it covers the entire Earth

It has a precise way it flows.

Water may be written on a small page…

And it may be held in one's hand.

Therefore water is water…

Whether it flows or flows NOT!

Whether it flows INTO WATER or DOES NOT!

Whether it is or is not!

Therefore, accommodate the water in one's hand, and acknowledge it is flow!

It flows or FLOWS NOT!

Is WATER, or IS NOT!

Therefore know it is a small thing—

And know it flows into something greater!

Therefore, know water.

And know how water FLOWS!
