Sheltering against freezing cold
Huddled under cardboard in shop doorway
Teeth chattering, praying for the dawn.
Penniless, homeless, hungry, thirsty
Wondering tearfully when to eat again
Hear kind words, with money for food.
Departed family after arguments
Pressure overwhelming
Pride preventing return home.
Rain falling as midnight hour chimes
In misery thinking of family
Weeping for those loved and left behind.
