Homo Inquiriens

We fell for 'Homo sapiens',
though, as a species,
we're hardly wise
(might be what we'll be) .

We fell for 'sapiens' out of pride,
or presumption's impertinent side,

or technology:
could crossed wiring
have given us the Latin for 'wise'
instead of for 'inquiring'?
