How Could You? Poem by Caswell Sibiya

How Could You?

Rating: 5.0

I wish it could be a dream,
All of this …
Is this the edge of the circle?
'Forever' is what you said
I was easily seduced
I fell on your snare

How could you?
After all my loyalty to you
Now that she took you away
I realize you meant 'never'
If my heart was a glass
It would've shattered into
A thousand pieces

How could you of all people
Because of you
I sink in my own pool of pain
Drenched in remorse
Life goes on they say
Life stands still for me

How could you,
After all those promises?
Weren't you satisfied with me?
Do you know how much I sacrificed?
I can't forgive you yet,
But I still love you.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This poem was inspired by a friend of mine. Last night my female friend told me that she just found out that her boyfriend has impregnated another woman. She told me how she felt and all, so I decided to put myself in her shoes and wrote this poem. Which is surprisingly the exact way she feels.
