How To Create The Perfect Poem Poem by Michael Philips

How To Create The Perfect Poem

Start with zero symbols,
then fall off the edge of the room
like an olympic diver yawning backwards
gathering imagery from air.

Make all words three-dimensional,
tie-dye them with rings of color,
chisel the letters from soft wood,
use them like flat stones
to send skittering across the still pond,
or use them to fix a lover’s image in your memory,
let her chance upon them on a shelf
instead of handing them to her.

Oh, I really love this one...the colors, the whimsical ideas, the subtlety. Raynette
