Humanity Poem by Mwayi Grace Makwinja

Humanity

Look into my eyes, beloved
These are the sacred charms
Of my soul

Take into yours my strengthened plea
That you may never become less,
Than my visual capacity

Take with you my cry for justice
My withered skin for protection
Look beyond…
If not then, beloved,
Look through me

I am more than what my eyes proclaim
See the body of the jewel
See beyond the tainted being
I am crying out for my being

Become more than a looker
Become the veins throbbing,
Carrying my blood
Become not an outsider

Beloved, become a genuine viewer,
A grey in the black and white
An understanding.
See me for the pillar of my being

Feel my strengths,
Pulse, body, mind,
Carry the burden of my soul
Do not judge what you cannot be
Testify only on what you know

Testify as my shadow,
Only then you will have known,
my light and dark.
Only then you will have become,
one with me,
Humanity
