Hyena Poem by Pasquale DiMeola

Hyena

Infant child crawling among the cadavers
Knee deep in the sanguinary sea of mortality
Coos at limbless sculptures marbled abominable

ARE WE IN NANKING?
ARE WE IN VASSAY?
ARE WE IN HALABJA?
ARE WE IN ANATOLIA?
ARE WE IN WOUNDED KNEE?
ARE WE IN RWANDA?

Are we respectively in denial of ourselves?
In the name of a pretentious peace
Embalming an atrophy mapped for generations
Resonant as a pathetic acknowledgement
Carnage has the blessing to satisfy its lust!
