I Almost Liked The Operettas

for Lucy W. Young

I almost liked the operettas
Because of going with my Grandmother
Who took her pearl opera glasses
She wore bluegrass perfume
dressed in elegant, knock off Chanel.
Later l loved only Puccini
The art song in cameo
The sounds of aeolian bells
What is music I asked the clouds
They drifted to show me
The drift of sound
The harmony of leaving
The beautiful evening reprised.
