I Am Here - Poem by Mark Heathcote

I don't want a love that's
Here today, gone tomorrow
Here today, gone tomorrow
Here today, gone tomorrow
Love is seeking a way out at times
But first it must discover a way in
Like a bookworm, it must devour
Its own, dust jacket from cover to cover
And write in the margins of every chapter
I am here, I am here, my lover
Touch my spine, read me cover to cover
But know that when you and I reach an end
I must go. I never asked to be just good friends.
I never wanted it to be ever over
I never wanted to leave you
But what could I do?
