I Am Me - Poem by letlhogonolo sepato

You seem to want things in life
Sometimes you think you're going mad
People go on and think its true
But I am me
What I do,
What I say,
What I love,
What I hate,
What I feel,
What I see,
What I think,
What I live for
I am just being me.
Sengwe le sengwe seo ke se lorang,
Sengwe le sengwe seo ke se tlhokang,
Sengwe le sengwe seo ke eletsang go nna sone,
Sengwe le sengwe seo ke utlwang batho ba se bua ke be ke kgona go se bua lenna,
Ke ka gonne ke nna.
Whether I am black and ugly
But I am me
Whether I don't have money and style
But I am me
Whether I don't wear expensive clothes with shiny stuff on my teeth
But I am me
Whether you see me as a loser or just a stupid guy
But I am me
Whether what you've heard about me is only nothing but the truth
But I am me
You may wipe away your recommendations of me in your thoughts
But still, I am me
You may cut me out with your eyes
But still, I am me
You may hurt me deep 'til I can't shed no more tears
But still, I am me
You may talk about me behind my back and let them believe you
But still, I am me
You may shut me out of your life and live happily
But still, Just how you left I am me
Yes I am me....

Indeed, it takes much courage for one to refuse the bandwagon effect and remain oneself. Being 'ME' at all-time is the only sure route for one to retain one's identity. A well articulated and nicely encapsulated piece of poetry insightfully penned with conviction. A lovely poem indeed. Thanks for sharing Sepato. Please read my poem MANDELA - THE IMMORTAL ICON.
