I Am Not A Sucker Poem by Raymond Farrell

I Am Not A Sucker

When trying to explain
The behavior of the Good Samaritan
Portrayed in Christ's parable
Richard Dawkins wrote
His actions were not normal
From a Darwinian
Point of view
But were the result
Of a mutation
Dr. Mengele boasted
In being a Darwinian
And from a sheer callous
Academic point of view
He was the epitamy
Of the survival
Of the strong
Over the weak
There is no scietific explanation
For love, humility, or compassion
Towards strangers
Let alone one's enemies
These emotions
Run contrary to Darwinian theory
But I will choose
That way of living
However mutated it is
Over what Dawkins
And Mengele stand for
Who are two sides
Of the same coin
Which says the
Law of the jungle
Is the normal
Current that will prevail
I am not a sucker
And prefer to swim
Against this rising current
Of evil
Veiled in scientific
And political correctness
Which will inevitably
Rob people
Of their rights
By first
Denying
Their dignity
As human beings.

Amen! I believe in compassion and even think that their is a certain logic to it that fits into Darwinian theory. You not only get immediate gratification, in the form of released oxytocin and endorphins, but you now have an ally

People are bailing out of organized religion for good reason but in the process they may be throwing the baby out with the bath water. There is a sinister aspect to what scientists are pushing and when people in science start suggesting how society should be run I get nervous. Real nervous.
