I Am Not Yet Ready To Die Poem by Shalom Freedman

I Am Not Yet Ready To Die

I AM NOT YET READY TO DIE

I am not yet ready to die
I have not prepared properly
No will and no selected place of burial
No putting of my work in order
No farewell to those I love
No finishing of the work I have to do
No doing of all I can do for others I care for
No loss of the ability to love life in many ways
No preparation of a final prayer to G-d
I am not yet ready to die
And yet
There are the thousand natural shocks that flesh is heir to
Surprise is not always good
It may be I will leave a mess behind
I am not yet ready to die
And yet there is no certainty
Each day each moment now
That my time has not yet come
I am not yet ready to die
But..
