I still am a child, and it's okay,
It's okay, I can breathe.
I can play, sing, and dance—
I'm still a child, and that's okay.
My heart is pure and pristine,
Untarnished by the quest for
imitation pearls and gemstones.
I can find joy and pleasure,
Even when they seem distant.
I call out to my God,
I sense a response,
Yet, there is no sound.
I scream and shout,
Break things around,
Hoping you'll hear me,
Come forth to guide me
from missteps.
Yet, you remain hidden.
I long to see you,
To glimpse your form,
To know if you take shape,
Or remain formless.
Since the moment I learned,
To ask and seek,
I have yearned to see your face,
But, in vain, a childish dream.
Yet, every day I think of you.
I am still a child,
Wishing you would walk to me,
but you turn away.
I wandered the shore,
And swim in the roaring sea,
Hoping to drown in the waves,
Craving to be close to you.
Sometimes I pray to see you
in human form,
But then I shun the thought,
Realizing you are beyond
the bounds of flesh.
I am still a child,
Trying to drink from the divine breast,
Yet understanding it is not the way.
I am still a child because I hold on to hope.
Though I cannot see your face,
In my heart you remain.
Like a child, I long to see you,
through the mirror of my soul,
And being a child exclaim, 'It is me! '
And it's okay to remain a child.
