I once asked my Dad
Who always seemed seemingly glad,
After he had finished his praying
Not knowing at all what he was saying.
I then asked my father this
That conversation I still remember and reminisce,
I needed an answer that day
So, I asked my Dad, "Why Do You Pray".
Then we looked eye to eye
As my Dad smiled and let out a small sigh,
Then he said unto me, "My caring son"
Because, in this world I'm still not done.
From prayers alone I gained nothing
From prayers I've lost something,
I lost anger, ego, depression, insecurity, fear and greed
And temptation and hate, from which now I've been freed.
The answer to our prayers is not gaining, but losing
Through God that is our true choosing,
By saying prayers I lost all hurt and pain
Which ultimately is the gain.
