I Came To The Sea Poem by Shalom Freedman

I Came To The Sea

I CAME TO THE SEA

I came to the sea
The sadness and loneliness
Did not go away-
The distance did not bring a dream-

The waves in their white and grey
Had a beauty-

The sky was blue again
And the sun on this winter day
Warmed-

But inside
I could not see the sea-

Deep in me
Long and far away
Anxiety hazed over the waves
And my soul was not at rest.
