I Choose Life Poem by Kenneth Muhangi

I Choose Life

I feel,
The soft caress of the wind on my face
The warm embrace of the sun on my skin
I feel the passage of time in every minute second
I am part of the world
And although I cannot feel tomorrow
My heart is at ease
Because for now, now is enough
I feel the chivalry of my legacy
Baring down on my soul; and reminding me of every distress
I feel my thoughts
As they intricately toy with my nonchalantly benevolent mind
Distracting me from my esoteric insecurities
Somewhere therein is the voice of my Lord
Urging me to cast away my doubts and restlessness
With ambivalence I must oblige
Knowing that with the choice to feel
I must feel pain
Love
Joy
Sorrow
Anger
The feeling of uncertainty
The unnerving unknown of the truth of my existence
My story in its entirety
I comfort myself with reason and civility
Should I waste my now, worrying about what I cannot change?
Feeling what I know I shouldn't feel?
Being the person I know I shouldn't be?

No, I must feel self aware
The rudder is in my hand
I alone can guide my future
To there, where my dreams are hopelessly infinite
I feel Ingloriously human
Imperfectly perfect
And in my quest for love, glory and success
I am reminded that I am a man
In control of my destiny
And I choose to feel rather than fear
To love rather than hate
To build rather than destroy
To grow rather than regress
I choose to move forward
I choose life.
