I'D Be Alone Poem by Nika McGuin

I'D Be Alone

Rating: 2.8

Listening to Mapei's
“Don't Wait”
the lyrics
were shaped
in the pattern
of my life

When she sang
“If it wasn't for you, I'd be alone.
If it wasn't for you, I'd be on my own.”
I thought of you

Though we haven't spoken in months
our bond is the kind that time can't rust
just knowing you're alive out there somewhere
I feel a lot less alone

Just hearing that you
asked how I've been
I feel like we've finally met up
and had this long awaited conversation

Just writing this poem,
though you'll probably never see it,
I feel like you'll understand me-
in fact, I feel like you already do

Your poem is an act of friendship, one of the preliminary acts of commitment that make a friendship strong enough to withstand things that could destroy it. It is also an act of hope, not the passive hope that expects things will turn out right but an active hope that imagines things ARE right. Hamlet says succinctly, THE READINESS IS ALL. Well, it's obvious from this poem you are ready for this friendship to flourish, and that certainty makes this poem glow with good will for you, the addressee, me and everyone else who reads it.
