I Did Comply Poem by Randy McClave

I Did Comply

To a very fancy party I was once sent and invitation
And once I went as a proud parent to my child's graduation,
I was told not to wear a ball cap or shorts or an insulting tie
Of course, I most certainly did comply.

If I am ever told that I am not welcomed inside
Because, I have a dangerous weapon at my side,
I would not ever scream or fret or shout out and cry
I would just walk away or disarm and comply.

I never spread rumors or with judgement did I point
Never stuck my nose in someone else's business and got it out of joint,
I was told not to ever to spread any rumors or to ever pry
So, unto that belief I did always comply.

I wanted to buy myself a car so I could drive it here and there
But, I had to take a test to prove that I could drive with safety and care,
I was then told a drivers license that by law I had to buy
So, I did happily comply.

I was drafted in the military by our own Uncle Sam
And then I was told I must fight and maybe even die in a foreign land,
I was forced to join the military to fight the bad guy
So, I did patriotically comply.

I read a person must be 21 to buy cigarettes or alcohol
Any one younger it's illegal to sell it to them at all,
I was then told and then read it was unlawful to buy illegal drugs to get high
So, I did smartly comply.

When I was older I got my first real job
I did what I was told by my supervisors and never did i complain or sob,
Only on myself did I truly rely
So, what my bosses told I did readily comply.

The pastor told me the story about our lord Jesus Christ
And how for our salvation on the cross he was crucified,
Then he arose after 3 days in the tomb where he did lie
So, to get saved I most spiritual did comply.

When I was 18 by law I went to register to vote
It was my solemn duty as my forefathers had spoke about and wrote,
So, that I could vote for my favorite law or guy
So, to register to vote I did comply.

A virus I was told I might catch from which others had caught
The doctors then advised me to take a shot,
I was then asked to take a vaccine so my friends wouldn't die
So, I once again did passionately comply.
