As I once stood in the boxing ring
Victory my heart and the judges did sing,
My coach he raised my arm where I then stood
Then he proudly said unto me, "I did good".
As I helped feed the hungry and the poor
My heart saw it as a happiness and not a chore,
I smiled with joy as only I should
Then my pastor said unto me, "I did good".
As I shoveled my elderly neighbors driveway
After coming home from church on a Sunday,
Freezing with gloves, and wearing also a hood
Then my neighbor said unto me, "I did good".
I gave my friend money when it was needed
To pay her taxes and help her children as heeded,
I did as any man in love truly would
Then she said unto me, "I did good".
When I die and I am judged by God
I will stand beside him with my head bowed and flawed,
With a trembling voice I will say, "I did the best that I could"
Then God will smile at me and say, "I Did Good".
