I Did Love You Poem by Holly Jamestone

I Did Love You

Oddly, I still love you
Though today’s the first I knew
I woke up with you on my mind
Your dear face shining through

I’ve gone about my household chores
Reliving last night’s dreams
Where you were in my mind and heart
And mended were our seams

Quite puzzled, I have thought of you
And all the years we had
I’ve pondered where our lives would be
If things had not turned bad

I’ve rearranged your pictures
With the kids’, upon the wall
I’ve reminisced and shed a tear
While taking in it all

In looking at your photographs
Surprisingly I knew
Through memories of sweeter times
How much I Did Love You

I don’t know why it took some time
To finally feel you here
Why life went on and weeks were spent
And now I want you near

I know the life we had back then
Had every chance to grow
That I was weak, fatigued and sad
And hurt more than you’ll know

I’ve looked into your face and eyes
And when our time was through
As I retrace our every step
And know I Did Love You
