I Don't Have Many Friends Poem by Joel Mildew

I Don't Have Many Friends

I don't have many friends
Who are as wise as me
For time has told us many and again
That an infant cannot count to three
Alas, I don't have many friends

I don't have many friends
Who woke to tranquility as me
For even a waking lion tried to fend
Still a narrow vision cannot see
Alas, I don't have many friends

I don't have many friends
Who paint the sun and sky as me
As many of them hide in the fens
But, time and greatness still cannot be
Alas, I don't have many friends

I don't have many friends
I don't have many friends
I don't have many friends
Who are similar and akin to me
For time has told us many and again
That wise men are never 'we'
