I Fought With Me Poem by Vera Sidhwa

I Fought With Me

I Fought

I fought with men.
I fought with women.
I fought with everybody,
Not knowing that the fight was about me.

I looked inside myself so frequently,
Yet the answer never came to me.
Who was really, really to blame?
I looked inside me again.

So I fought as a soldier,
And as a policeman.
I fought so hard,
For fighting's sake.

I just had it in me,
But I didn't know why,
I fought everybody.
But I fought myself the most you see.
