I Have Never Pretended Poem by Francis Duggan

I Have Never Pretended

I have never pretended that i was a poet
Nor do i feel worthy of any literary note
I just write rhymes for enjoyment and little else more
This is something you may have heard me say before
Rhymers are many and poets are few
And this is not saying anything that is new
For so many years i have been a rhyming buff
And i am one who has written many pages of stuff
I am one of those who writes rhymes every day
And if i did not enjoy doing it i would give it away
Mine it will never be a well known name
I just write rhymes for enjoyment not for money or fame
If i said i would quit rhyming this would be a lie
And i hope to be doing it on the day i do die.
