I Have No Right Poem by Lil Sutton

I Have No Right

Who am I to hold you prisoner in my heart?
To keep you from living your life?
Ties bind us but I feel you struggle to be free
Keeping your happiness at bay
Withholding your future

I drag you into the turmoil of my heart,
Into the darkness of my mind
I should let you get on with your future
Not force you to stay in this limbo with me

Expecting things from you I know you can not give
Doesn’t seem to stop me wanting them from you
You are wearing down and ready to let go
I tighten my grip not wanting to let you go

Let the light into your heart and banish me from your thoughts
Our love is just a beautiful memory
Our momentary situation is the ugly truth
No point both of us being broken and lost
Find your way
I have no right to keep you here
I have no right.
