There was a lady in my life for years
Who was so very dear to me
One day I had to say good-bye
She was on her death bed, you see
I sat beside her bed for hours
As she was in and out of sleep
It was so hard because I knew
She was someone I couldn’t keep
My life would be so empty
Yes, I knew this to be true
Once she had left and gone to God
If you knew her, you’d feel it too
For she was a true lady of God
Her life had belonged to Him
She’d thought about it carefully
It was not done on a whim
But she was elderly now, you see
She became so thin and frail
God was waiting and she knew it
For heaven would now prevail
She awakened and I kissed her
She said, “I’m dying now, you know.”
I told her “Yes I know you are
And I’m going to miss you so.”
I finally had to walk away
And on with my life I’d roam
But I heard her say very softly,
“I will see you, dear, at home! ”
Marilyn Lott I have a lot of respect for those who can rhyme but still make sense! Thank you so much for that inspiring story about faith and acceptance of death! Thank you once again! Sydne Morris
