I Look Over At The Clock - Poem by Michael Krudwig

I look over at the clock which read three-thirty in the morning;
I lie there, unable to sleep because of all the different emotions running through my mind; sadness, depression, nervousness to name a few;
wondering how I have managed to fake a smile and say everything is alright, when deep down, I am aware that it is all a lie;
it's not alright, but nobody else knows the truth;
they don't understand the pressure I put on myself to become a decent person;
they don't know how much effort I put into everything I do, just to fall short of my expectations and standards for everything;
they look at my life as if it is great, thinking it would be easy to walk a mile in my shoes;
people I see everyday, yet still don't know the truth
