I Smile Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

I Smile

I smile

Read and watch and smile!
Looking back in the dark
Appear large pictures with smiles!

Stare at the photo of victim of the rape
(Murder of stillbirth? A life in prison!)
Salvadorans, finally, released her,
With warm heart she smiles…

I smile and smile and smile!

Stories take me to our mission;
We flew with call sign of "LF, "
Those days make me smile!

Airplane was loaded
With gifts and presents
For the-then-president.

We landed by Nile's side
Country was Sudan…

Our Shah was messenger
And we were carriers…

Now knowing names' meanings
Dig dip in relations with US, memories
That took me to the bank where Moses
Was hidden in basket;
We exchanged greetings with smiles!

Felt Pharaoh nearby
Pyramids on the rise
At slaves I smiled…

History is circle
Not line with start-end
I smile at the Mary-go-around…

In Khartoum we were the VIPs
The hotel was "Grand" …

Conrad wrote the "Dark Heart, "
Brutal invasions of Europe danced on walls;
Joseph-I laughed out loud, then smiled.

Got invite to a show; theatre was near;
The young men shouted: "White! "
Seeing them, forced me into smile…

There was an Egyptian, a woman;
White she was to blacks; throbbed hearts.

Market was very large
And rich with merchandise
Our crew went to shop…

I purchased raw skin
Of serpent, for my wife
To make a bag and boots,
Joyfully, with smile!

Hossein, our co-pilot, came too late;
Complained from pain in his sides:
"The woman was too tight…! "

He told us of sewing genitals;
Now know it being called: "FGM, "
Recalling his whining give smile…

"The people are too poor;
And she was high-ranking…"
Feel him say; with sorrow, I smile!

News says that Bashir
"Got many millions from the Saudis, "
Didn't shah do the same?
Weren't we the agents of US?
(while using our plane!)

Since we worked for White House
Their power punched the mouths
And the tongues were sealed, cut
To print: "They are right! " I smile!
