I Spent A Day Without You Poem by Mark Heathcote

I Spent A Day Without You

I spent a day without you.
And couldn't decipher who left who.
It's easy to be defensive and forget.
A garden has roses as well as thorns.

I spent a day without you.
And forget my name, my ambitions.
It's easy to do when you're drunk.
And forget to wake up or look up.

I spent a day without you.
And heard -your name in the rain's ripples.
In every raindrop
It was raining all around, and I was due.

Due to fly, take a plane for a flight alone without you.
No direction, for I've no place to call home.
I was sopping wet, but there wasn't a cloud.
Not one single cloud overhead.

I spent a day without you.
And I don't know anything anymore.
It could be I'm just wasting another blue sky
It could be I'm just wasting winter's last rose.

I spent a day without you.
And then another,
And then another,
And then another,
And wondered why I didn't just stay.
