I spent a lifetime
Becoming ‘nothing'
As a writer-

I tried and tried,
for all those years
giving it almost all of my time-
and there were times I thought
I might be close to being ‘something'-

But in the end
After all the effort
‘Nothing' is what I have become

Thank God I nonetheless
Have been able to live a life
In other ways somehow-
