I Stepped Out, And Looked Around Poem by Mohammad Younus

I Stepped Out, And Looked Around

I stepped out, and looked around
And found: I'm lonely—
Who other is in the world?
And far as my eye could see
Darkness covered everything,
Blacker than Zulumat!
Then I smiled, and the music broke,
And the space filled up with divine music
As if there existed nothing but music
I found myself music listening to music
Then all of a sudden light broke
And the darkness rolled up on one side,
The light stood shining, on everything
Wherefrom light and music is coming!
And I said: That's good!

Then I reached out to God in me
I saw him speaking to me about my love
And He rolled the light around my head
Until he made me to come out of my dream;
The night had gone,
The blazing sun in the heavens shone on me.
I flung out of the quilt
Opened the front window to see
The manifestation, The creation
Everything outside was singing and smiling
And I said: That's good!

Then I myself drew my eyes inside —
God walked inside, No He was always there
Wherever I saw, His presence haloed all space
I was amazed as I saw I was before in delusion
I saw I was not in reality dry and barren.
The cooling stream of divine is running in me
And the river is running down to the sea
I saw the fathomless sea before me
God again smiled on me,
He made His Truth of Oneness appear to me
And I said: That's good.

Then I walked around, and looked around
On all that he had created to manifest Himself
I looked at his sun,
And I looked at his moon,
And I looked at his bright stars;
I looked on his creation
With all its living things,
And I said: Only God is there.
