I thought that heralding angels would call
from down the blue hills I used to gaze upon
that life would be simple when from the scrawled tower
I bound my thoughts with sudden sunflowers
repaying the sky blue debt I owe to the brothers Limoges.
now it has been nights, innumerable days
the piano transcriptions waiting to be transposed
when I had sought the starbright ways
and the cameo slipped down the well
and no retrieval.
surely God will break this spell
that binds me to autumnal kells continually
and loose the gold that braids the leaves
with childish foreboding
from the trees
it has been a long time
in my book of hours
since I turned down the page
where the snows began.
the spent roses hushed.
