I Want To Garden In The Snow Poem by Mark Heathcote

I Want To Garden In The Snow

I want to garden in the snow.
But what can I grow?
That hasn't already died.
And froze in distant sets in the ground.

Sure, it may take ages.
Even-moving this goddamn plough.
And gather enough manure from the cow.
To make one good furrow

But I sure want to garden in this snowy place.
But what can I grow?
That hasn't already bloomed died long ago.
Emaciated hands could seed this land.

If it wasn't a bed of solid rocks
In a wild wood - this morning with you
I'd cast the seeds and watch the falling leaves.
While they're smashed to pieces
Smithereens on a fateful autumn breeze.

But I sure would like to see some flowers grow.
I've had enough of cabbage hearts.
And winter berries in the hard snow
Please leave me some fallen petals and happy memories.

Please leave me a garden of memories.
A company that has no more dark shadows to spin.
I want to see one last thing grow.
Before I too dwindle like an icicle in the snow.
