I Want To Tell A Happy Story Poem by Paula Glynn

I Want To Tell A Happy Story

I am an attractive 75 year old woman now
I've been around the block a long time now
I took on every closed door hoping somehow
And did repeatedly and knowingly knock
Knowing I knew a lot: more than a jot.

I had my education: I worked hard
I was self-sufficient and was a lonely gifted bard
I longed for true love the way many do
I did take my strawberry bubblegum and chew
And that was when I finally knew,

I wasn't going to be young forever
I had to get qualifications and get better
I had to go out into the mysterious world
Where I seemingly knew nothing
But I turned out to be a wise and smart girl.

I realised to never copy failing others
I realised to be self-reliant and confident
I realised to apologise to myself
To grant my own brand of wealth
I learned to respect my mental health.

I would never break the law: no matter the pressure
Even when tempted to immaturely lash out
Even when tempted to scream and shout
But I stuck to my personal principles
I made my own winning-the-lottery kind of luck.

And now I have told a happy story
With a happy ending, a message of love I'm sending
Where others did the low-life pretending
And I never lowered myself to their level
My karma positive and unique and wonderfully special.
