I was hungry and you fed me
To his disciples Jesus once said,
When you heard my rumbling belly
So, you gave me fruit and also bread.
I was thirsty and you gave me a drink
I was a stranger and you invited me in,
Being kind and courteous you didn't have to think
You showed me no hostility, hate or sin.
I was freezing and you gave me clothes
When I was sick you gave me help,
Your love and generosity you did impose
You treated me with love, as if I were yourself.
I was in prison and you came to visit
Because of you I was not ever alone
Your kindness and love you didn't prohibit
Because of you I didn't moan.
Truly I tell you this spoke the Lord divine
Then the answer to his story he did tell,
Whatever you do for one of these brothers and sisters of mine,
You also did it to me as well.
You see that child cold and hungry over there
You again ignored him and you pass him by,
That homeless person you give no help or care
In your heart you don't care if they live or die.
I wonder what our Lord Jesus will say
When on judgement you will stand in front of him,
Will you say all you did was to pray
While taking care of the poor and hungry was up to them.
