I Was Told Poem by Randy McClave

I Was Told

I was told a gun was just a tool
Which could be used by and imbecile or fool,
They said it was like the screwdriver, hammer and saw
Or a shovel or an axe used in awe.
The tools used by a carpenter
The tools also used by a gardener,
Used to design and to create and to build
And also beauty and produce to yield.

I was told that a tool was also a gun
I wonder if that was just a pun,
A gun cannot be used to build or to create
It's a sign of fear and revenge and hate.
When a a hammer or a chisel or a screwdriver is in someone's hand
They're going to better the world or change the land,
But, when a gun is in someone's eye
Whether they are good or bad, someone will die.
