I Will Always Love You My Child Poem by Andrew Rugg

I Will Always Love You My Child

The wind carries a name one to familiar too her yet now so distant

Her smile has gone lost within sorrow; eyes wet with tears

She stands alone within a snow covered playground, holding the object closer to her chest

Just to embrace what has been lost, within the safety of her arms one last time

She can't say goodbye, she can't let go but all is to clear as the icy wind grew near, ruffling her hair and clothes, passing-through her body and soul

Looking down at the object a fresh set of tears blurred her hazel optics

She closed her eyes allowing cool tears to trickle down her face, letting the wind caress her skin

Reluctantly she held the object from her chest, removing its lid and with shaking hands reaching inside; grasping a handful of its contents

Her eyes opened as she looked down upon her hand, watching as a tear fell from her face falling and sinking into the grayish mass she held with care

As if to awaken what has been put to rest, a wish she yearned to come true

She relaxed her hand and before she could blink, the wind took hold of the remains

Eyes snapped towards the sky to get a final glance yet it was too late as it carried away memories, memories she would never forget

Falling to her knees she stared blankly into the cold, hoping, knowing that it was on its way to a better place

Yet it still pained her to know it has happened, that this day came before her own

And as the snow began to fall she put her hand over her heart and looked up to the white sky

'I will always love you…my child'

She whispered one last time as the wind continued on.
