If Anew Again
Syed Kawsar Jamal

If I begin anew all over again, would I change everything?
Would agile springs gush out in my poems with intense zeal?
Would I drink again from the goblets of my dear friends of olden days?
Would passions of thunder and lightning inflame romantic tales?
Would you, that rustic companionship return to my desolate world?
O endless twilight, have you also moved near to give me company!
Should I now run out and say, ‘O great One, do look towards me'?
Appeal, ‘I seek your favour and in return, will agree to all your terms'?

If it begins anew again… I know you would give me a new showcase
And multi-coloured posters with accolade put up in the long avenue.
I know you would also give me those critics who look at me scornfully,
Who would angrily point at me grumbling, ‘ Unbearable!
Let us break the glasshouse he has built for himself into pieces! '
