If Ever - Poem by Kathleen Pastrana

If ever I
stopped
saying
good night

it does not mean
I have
forgotten;
one does not
simply
forget

it's not
the lack of
time;
it takes
eleven
seconds
to say it

I wonder
if you felt
the weight
of my feelings
slowly
drifting
away

I shall sleep
soundly
tonight

If ever I
stopped
saying
good night

it simply means
I have
stopped
loving
you

So be
aware
